Western Carolina baseball's final road game of the 2008 season which was scheduled for Tuesday evening at East Tennessee State has been cancelled due to a scheduling conflict. Officials at ETSU contacted Catamount skipper, Bobby Moranda, on Monday evening and notified him of the scheduling conflict. Essentially, the Bucs have too many games under the NCAA-mandated cap, and therefore had to whittle the excess off its schedule, dooming what was to be WCU's final road contest prior to the tournament. Western Carolina will wrap up its regular season this Thursday through Saturday as it hosts the second-place College of Charleston Cougars for a three-game Southern Conference series in Cullowhee. -

Western Carolina took both games of Saturday's Southern Conference twin bill, rallying in the top of the 10th inning to upend The Citadel, 5-2, in game one, and then leading from start-to-finish to complete the regular season sweep of the Bulldogs with an 11-2 victory in game three. Saturday's two wins stretch Western's current winning streak to a season-long eight games. It also pushed the Catamounts to 27-24 overall, 13-11 in conference play. Western Carolina will step out of conference on Tuesday night as it visits former SoCon-foe, East Tennessee State in Johnson City at 7:00 pm. WCU edged ETSU, 12-11, back on March 25 as senior Jason Haynes blasted a two-run, walk-off home run to lift the Catamounts to the win. -

Western Carolina junior Mike Tavernier scattered six base hits while limiting The Citadel to three runs as the Catamount offense pounded out 18 base hits in an 11-3 victory in game one of its Southern Conference series Friday night under the lights at Riley Park. WCU used a five-run fifth inning to seize control of the game to improve to 25-24 overall, 11-11 in conference play, stretching its current winning streak to a season-high tying six games. Due to the threat of impending inclement weather in the Lowcountry on Sunday, officials at The Citadel have decided to move the final game of the three-game series to Saturday evening making it a double-header. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 pm with game three slated for 30 minutes after the first game of the twin bill. -
