Raquel Ramseur, Matt Cook Named Western Carolina 2007-08 Student-Athletes of the Year

Senior men's golfer Matt Cook (Murphy, N.C./Murphy) and senior sprinter Raquel Ramseur (Charlotte, N.C./Vance) were named Western Carolina University's Student-Athletes of the Year for the 2007-08 athletic season, as announced this week by the WCU Athletic Department. The two will officially be recognized and honored in August during a brief ceremony at the annual student-athlete meeting. Ramseur edged out track & field teammate - and cross country MVP - Kerrie Savery, while Cook was a near unanimous selection as track & field junior Manteo Mitchell was the only other to receive votes. - Read Full Release

Western Carolina, Larry Hunter Release 2008-09 Men's Basketball Schedule

Western Carolina head men's basketball coach Larry Hunter today released his 2008-09 schedule which features a 30-game regular season and prominent road trips to Connecticut, Kent State, Marquette and a three-game appearance in the Great Alaskan Shootout in Anchorage, Alaska. The scheduled includes a 20-game Southern Conference slate with the first-ever league meeting with the Samford Bulldogs. All told, five of WCU's opponents advanced to post-season play a year ago, including five to the NCAA tournament and one to the National Invitational Tournament (NIT). The schedule also features five Saturday home dates in conference play, with the entire SoCon slate falling in the final two months of the season. - Read Full Release
